oceans aware: inform, inspire, involve

the more you know about the ocean the more you can do to protect and restore it

information - inspiration - involvement

improving our impact on the ocean

The ocean is both vast and complex: bringing ocean topics together in an accessible and comprehensive format will, I hope, allow for a greater understanding of the challenges it faces and what each and every one of us can do to protect and restore it.

The oceans aware information platform has been set up to help you learn about and explore the ocean, to encourage you to delve deeper into ocean-related topics, to inspire you to follow a lifestyle that supports the ocean, to prompt you to get involved in ocean protection, to find ways to restore the ocean, perhaps even to explore the possibilities of ocean-related studies or careers, simply put to become an ocean citizen.

Passionate about protecting and restoring the ocean and hopeful that by inspiring people to learn about the ocean we can all take steps to bring about change, I have created the oceans aware portal to both inform and inspire people to become ocean citizens.

No matter where we live, or where we come from, no matter what we do, no matter how old we are, we are all ocean citizens and we can all take steps to protect it.

Ocean action can and should happen at many different levels. International and regional organizations, States, NGOs, companies, investors and individual stakeholders all have a role to play. We can not wait for others to take the lead, change will only come if we are all working simultaneously, both together and as individuals.

There are many small steps that each of us can take to help restore the ocean. Find out what you can do here.

  • training

In support of the ocean literacy movement, oceans aware aims to help schools take a first step by establishing an annual Ocean Day, with lessons of every discipline dedicated to the ocean on that day.

Ocean Day training packs, as well as tailor-made ocean toolkits to accompany longer-term projects, clubs or training sessions are available for schools or other organizations upon request.

Find out more about this initiative and how to get involved on the training page.
