ocean plastic sources

Most plastic pollution can be followed back to a handful of States and a small group of companies. About 80% of all ocean plastic pollution can be traced to 1,000 rivers and just 10 States (China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Egypt, Malaysia, Nigeria and Bangladesh) have been identified as the greatest sources of ocean plastic. The Yangtze River alone dumps up to 1.5 million metric tons of plastic waste into the Yellow Sea every year. Brand audits of plastic found identify the ten worst companies as Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Nestlé, Danone, Mondelez International, Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Perfetti van Melle, Mars Incorporated and Colgate-Palmolive.
